Green Machine!

This was a recent piece I illustrated for Print Week, the article gave tips on how Print companies can save money and do their bit for the environment via their Print Delivery Trucks. I took the tips and gave them a few more, Wind-meals on wheels, giant Rollerboot, sailing boats on wheels, oversized paper aeroplanes and foot powered Flintstone style vehicles. Look out Toyota Prius!

Glasgow Jazz Festival

I was asked by the kind folk at Atalanta to illustrate Pharoah Sanders, the excellent Saxophone jazz musician, for this years Glasgow Jazz Festival. I rarely get to do these sort of commissions all the portrait illustrations I do tend to be personal projects only, so this will be for others eyes too!

I kept the colour palette limited to tie in with the magenta in the Jazz Fest logo, all the white lines for his beard and hat (he's had some awesome beards in his time) were drawn in dip pen, line work was reduced to a minimum to keep it bold and graphic.

The final piece will be a fold out leaflet measuring 530mm x 310mm with details of the festival on the other side. Check out this youtube clip of Pharoah Sanders and James Blood Ulmer doing some 'improv' blues jazz fusion...Nice.

CATS AHOY! wins Roald Dahl Funny Prize.

Cats Ahoy! the book I illustrated written by Peter Bently for MacMillan publishers has won first prize at the Booktrust Roald Dahl Funny Prize awards in the 0-6 yr olds category, the winner for the 7-12 yr was Liz Pichon with her book The Wonderful World of Tom Gates. The award ceremony was on Tuesday 8th November at The Unicorn Theatre for Children, amongst the nominees was Mr Terry Jones, Leigh Hodgkinson, Alexis Deacon, Russell Ayto and many more fine folks...

I'm super chuffed with the result as its my debut picture book - beginners luck. The book and also signed prints of the artwork is available to buy from my shop if you're interested.

Its also been nominated for the CILIP Katie Greenaway prize amongst an incredibly strong list of illustrators including Oliver Jeffers, David Roberts and many more...

I'm currently working on my second book with Peter Bently at the moment which should be out sometime next year.
