Christmas display

Classified, a western style Deli in Hong Kong asked me to produce some Christmassy illustrations for their pop up shop. The way they animated them on their website is quite funny... take a look here... make sure you have the sound on... and scroll over the images. Happy Christmas time everyone!

CATS AHOY! wins Roald Dahl Funny Prize.

Cats Ahoy! the book I illustrated written by Peter Bently for MacMillan publishers has won first prize at the Booktrust Roald Dahl Funny Prize awards in the 0-6 yr olds category, the winner for the 7-12 yr was Liz Pichon with her book The Wonderful World of Tom Gates. The award ceremony was on Tuesday 8th November at The Unicorn Theatre for Children, amongst the nominees was Mr Terry Jones, Leigh Hodgkinson, Alexis Deacon, Russell Ayto and many more fine folks...

I'm super chuffed with the result as its my debut picture book - beginners luck. The book and also signed prints of the artwork is available to buy from my shop if you're interested.

Its also been nominated for the CILIP Katie Greenaway prize amongst an incredibly strong list of illustrators including Oliver Jeffers, David Roberts and many more...

I'm currently working on my second book with Peter Bently at the moment which should be out sometime next year.

charity Christmas cards

I've designed some Christmas cards this year for ndi moyo, a charity that provides palliative care for HIV/AIDS sufferers in Malawi.

I’ve done five designs, (all using traditional African patterns and textiles), which you get in a mixed pack of twelve cards (six cards by another illustrator) with envelopes.

If you're buying charity cards this year, hope you'll consider these!

Roald Dahl - Funny Prize

I recently had some excellent news... CATS AHOY! has been shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize in the 0-6 years. I'm completely chuffed as its my first picture book, not that I've read - that I illustrated. Many thanks to Chris Inn's and Hannah Ray at Macmillan for pairing me up with the excellent Peter Bently. Good luck to all the fellow short-listers whose fate will be decided on November the 8th. I'm currently busy working on my next book with Peter for Macmillan, which should be out sometime next year.

Hello there

Here's some work I've not long finished for some lovely people across the pond at the Harvard Business Review. The article was called "The Relationships You Need To Get Right" and dealt with the need to be an "effective sponsor- and a good Protégé" throughout your management career. The pics will be dropped in over four pages. Should look nice.

Do come along to "Look Mum No Hands!" to see our work if you can

Cheers
Cam.

Testicles

This is a small excerpt from an article in Readers Digest which I illustrated

In the middle ages men who were desperate to have a boy often had their left testicle removed. This was because it was mistakenly believed that the right testicle created ‘boy sperms’ and the left, ‘girl sperms’.

DLD and Bavarian National Museum

These collage figures of mine were used on banners outside the Bavarian National Museum in Munich to advertise an event organized by DLD and Siemens to celebrate the Women's Football World Cup in June. The illustrations were taken from the invite for the event which I co-designed with my good friend and talented artist Rina Donnersmarck.

CATS AHOY!

Arrgh its my new book. Tis a swashbuckling tale of pirate plunder, derring do and a huge haul of haddock! When Alfonso the cat hears there’s a boat coming into harbour carrying its largest ever catch, he hatches a plan. It’s brave! It’s bold! And it involves a ghost pirate ship, some rather gullible fishermen, and cats … LOTS of cats.

Above is artwork for the cover and three of the artworked spreads, click to ENLARGE.

Written by Peter Bently and Published by Pan MacMillan, you can get a copy from HERE

Classic FM Illustration

Hello

This is a illo' I did for the lovely Sandra Marques (Art Editor) over at Classic FM, for their "True Stories" piece. It was about composer György Ligeti premiere of Poème Symphonique, which didn't go down to well with the good people of the Dutch city of Hilversum during the Gaudeamus New Music Week. Probably because it was played by 100 metronomes!

Guardian Sports page

Hello there.
This pic' was for last Mondays Guardian Sports back page, Martin Kelner was writing (partly) about his attention being drawn to the cleavage "four rows behind the players' seats" during the Andy Murray-Ivan Lubric match at Wimbledon.

Leela's Book

Leela's Book by Alice Albinia was published this month by Harvill Secker in a beautiful hard cover edition with a cover designed by me. The die-cut dust jacket reveals part of a second layer of illustrations covering the actual book. This job was a great opportunity to apply my love for paper engineering. Pick up a copy and enjoy!
